Meeting Planners Need to Wear Multiple Hats

By admin

With more companies than ever using meeting planners, it would seem like meeting planners might be immune to the need to wear multiple hats. Sadly, that is not the case and for a very interesting reason: as more companies employ meeting planners, more companies are in need of individuals with flexible skill sets. If you want to transition from an existing job to meeting planning, now might be a good idea, and here is the advice you need to make it happen:

  • Start by making sure that the powers that be know that you are interested in multi-tasking. Some businesses may not ask whether their employees are flexible or even make assumptions that are not based in fact. These assumptions could lead to unfortunate consequences, so dispel them early and often.
  • Develop skills by any means necessary. Read books, talk with others about their tasks, and learn the ins and outs of the business to figure out where you could fit in well and offer additional value. Remember that meeting planning is extremely profitable and in demand so do not neglect this skill set.
  • Invest in equipment as well as books to show your commitment to meeting the needs of all the different hats you might end up wearing. Dedication speaks volumes, especially in a depressed economy.
