Great Organizational Tools for Meeting Planners
Being a successful meeting planner requires organization, and not in small amounts. Staying organized is important for anyone hoping to make a successful career out of meeting planning, and that will generally mean investing in the right tools for the job. In some cases, these investments can be covered by the company or companies one is working for/with, or it may be a tax deductible.
As always, be sure to consult with an accountant regarding all tax-related issues before making any final purchasing decisions. Here are tools that can help you keep your meeting and/or event planning organized:
A good smartphone that can be locked – There are dozens of competent smartphones on the market, but you want one with a few key features: the ability to be securely locked, a competent scheduler that can be synched, SMS/MMS features, rich e-mail, java-enabled browsing, and social media apps.
A pen and notepad – Sadly, even the best smartphones still do not make great notepads. Do not wait to take notes, just pull out the old pen and notepad and do things the old fashioned way. You can always transcribe them later.
An MP3 player and recorder – Take notes, and take audio notes. Review those notes whenever possible, and listen for the meaning behind the words. Perhaps you can discover the motivations for certain requests and become a better meeting planner as a result.
